February 2009 Puzzle Solution
Each heart in the image refers to a real or fictional person. Once you have identified these people, you might notice that some of them are love interests. Moreover, some people are associated with more than one other person, forming love triangles. For example, Cleopatra has love ties to both Marc Antony and Caesar, so draw a line connecting all three. When all triangles have been marked thusly, the picture looks as follows:

The triangles are connected, giving an order starting at the top left. Triangles can be classified based on the angles (acute, right, obtuse) and based on the sides (isoceles, equilateral, scalene). The text above the image tells you to use the angle classification when the important vertex of the triangle is a man, and to use the side classification when the important vertex is a woman. In the right order:

  • RIGHT (Archie, Betty, Veronica)
  • OBTUSE (Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, Monica Lewinsky)
  • SCALENE (Guinevere, Arthur, Lancelot)
  • ACUTE (Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Anniston)
  • RIGHT (Woody Allen, Mia Farrow, Soon Yi)
  • ISOCELES (Cleopatra, Julius Caesar, Marc Antony)
  • EQUILATERAL (Jean Grey, Wolverine, Cyclops)
  • SCALENE (Buffy, Spike, Angel)
The first letters spell your answer, ROSARIES.
