If you say what these pictures are, you may notice after a while that they can all be appended by the word fish, i.e. sunfish, zebrafish, silverfish, etc. Take the letters from those new words as indicated by the number on the pictures to get the following message:
There are five "fishes" that are not technically fishes. These are silverfish, crayfish, jellyfish, shellfish, and cuttlefish. Look at how these are distributed on the square. Do you see a final fake fish? Indeed, they form the shape of a star, making the answer STARFISH.
